The reading, study, meditation on and application of the scriptures is vitally important for us in order to live the lives Christ calls us to. In Psalm 119:103 we read, “How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” God’s word is the owner’s manual for us. It is wonderful, it is alive, and it feeds our souls. The writer of Hebrews gives us reason to pause and listen to the voice of our Master through His word when he writes, “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. (Heb 4:12) This should give us pause to consider what our Father is saying to us through His word.
Through the scriptures we seek our Fathers guidance and direction, and His “word is a lamp to my (our) feet and a light for my (our) path.” (Psalm 119:105) In the book of Joshua (1:7-8) we read the following, “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. (8) Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” When we read, study, meditate on and apply scriptures, we meet Jesus in them, we get to know our Father in them, and we get guidance and direction through the them. And we will find ourselves living God-Successful lives.
An anon Bishop in India reminds us, “devotion to the word of God is not simply one of many devotions, beautiful but somewhat optional. It goes to the very heart and identity of Christian life. The word has the power to transform lives”. We read, study, meditate on and apply scriptures. We also share the word of God with those we have relationship with and with whom God has given us responsibility for. We share the scriptures whenever we have the opportunity to gather together. We should, because the word of God has the power to radically transform lives. This is all part of seeing His kingdom advance, in our own lives, our Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria unto the utter most parts of the world.
