Welcome To Willow Hill Vineyard
– Vaughan Zoutendyk

Vaughan Zoutendyk
(Senior Pastor)
Hi! I’m Vaughan Zoutendyk, Senior Pastor of Willowhill Vineyard Church. I gave my life to Jesus in 1989 and I have been on a wonderful journey of learning to Follow Him. I am married to an amazing woman, and I have 3 children that I am very grateful for and proud of. I am passionate about how Christ followers develop in the Kingdom of God, and how we participate in God’s plan on earth. I am looking forward to meeting you. “Come as a stranger, and leave as a friend”.

If you read our vision statement, you can easily follow the flow as you look at the Vineyard man. The Vineyard Man picture is a helpful metaphor describing the founding vision of the Vineyard. It is taken from an article in Equipping the Saints (John Wimber, 1993). This particular picture is used by Leeds VCF in the UK.
Our vision is the whole man; we don’t get to pick and choose. The Word of God is our foundation, the theology of the Kingdom is our frame of reference, and how the Word is expressed. We draw people into the Church/Body through worship and compassion and teach them to become responsible Church members. As a Church, we are a home for people to find family, a hospital for people to be healed, a school for people to be equipped and an army that will go out into the world and advance the Kingdom. What is our mission? Our mission is clear: to go and make disciples. How do we do this and reach out to the world? Through the arms of Church planting and Renewal.
What would I experience if I chose to visit Willow Hill Vineyard? The language of the genetic code is helpful for us in understanding who we are as a Church.
The Vineyard GENETIC CODE
In every Vineyard Church in the world, the following eleven things are considered essential evidence of being in line with the Association’s beliefs and practices:
- The Bible is taught as the word of God with application for daily living. The Bible is central to our teaching, faith and life. This has to do with simple life-oriented teaching and Biblical exposition.
- Good, meaningful worship through singing contemporary songs, giving and preaching the Word. Worship is our highest priority —not just singing, but not less than that. It has to do with regular corporate worship that is personal, intimate and non-manipulative.
- Evidence of an ongoing ministry to the poor/broken/divorced etc. Ministry to the poor, needy and hurting is very important to God and the Vineyard — it should be a regular practice of mercy regarding feeding, clothing, helping, serving, ministry, etc.
- Evangelism is going on in all ways and at every level. Evangelism is the call of every believer — to bring others to Christ through friendships, power encounters, and other outreach programmes. Real Church growth means reaching out into the world and advancing the Kingdom of God.
- A strong emphasis on healing, signs and wonders. Signs and wonders are a normal and regular part of Church life — to practise the ministry of compassion and power in terms of healing the sick and broken, driving out the demons and doing the supernatural works of God.
- Small groups of adults involved in ministry, discipleship and mutual care with responsibilities. Connect groups (small groups) are the basic structure of the Church: the place of belonging, relationships, self-disclosure, growth, discipleship and practice of ministry. We would like all members to be involved in our small groups
- Effective training and equipping of the people for works of ministry. Training is fundamental to our success as a Church. It is necessary to ‘equip the saints’ for the work of ministry in all its aspects and for life itself.
- Involvement and interaction with other churches for inter-church unity. Other Churches must be loved, respected and worked with because we are part of the one Body of Christ. We must seek to have good relationships with the broader Church.
- The encouragement and the exercising of spiritual gifts. Spiritual gifts are in every believer — they are to be identified, evoked and exercised for the common good. We must be more gift-based than organisational-based.
- Missions – domestic and foreign, especially in the form of Church planting. Church planting and missions are at the heart of the Vineyard calling. Every Church should have a vision to grow and multiply and to touch other parts of the world. John Wimber always said that the best form of evangelism is planting a new Church.
Racial, class, gender, and generational reconciliation are pursued as essential, non-negotiable goals in our African context.

It would be wonderful to have you visit with us one Sunday & we would look forward to journeying forward with you and getting to know you better.
Perhaps you may enjoy some more detailed info about us @ Willow Hill VCF, and hopefully, it will answer some of the questions you may have with regard to our Church.
Mandy, my wife, and I met when she was 14 and I was 17; we were married in 1994 and have 3 wonderful children: Joshua, Daniel and Annah-Faith.
We planted the Church in August 2002, and I had a Pizza Perfect business to help support my family until the Church could support us. In July 2004, we felt led to sell the business, and the Lord provided a Christian buyer. It was time to “Step out of the boat.” Those were interesting times.
We have diverse age groups and many families with young children.
The central verses for our Church are: Luke 4 vs.18-19
18 “The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free,19 and that the time of the LORD’s favour has come.”
A quote which is key for me following on to these verses is:
“A reliance on a special group or core of people to dispense the special revelations from God, Disempowers God’s army and turns them into an audience.” – John Wimber
Now, Willow Hill Vineyard is associated with the Association of Vineyard Churches of Southern Africa or AVC, which is part of the International Association of Vineyard Churches.
Costa Mitchell is the present senior leader of the Association (National Director). His task is to encourage local Vineyard Churches and encourage church planting and renewal of Churches within South Africa and on the African Continent.
The AVC is divided into territorial areas under the oversight of a regional organiser.
Every Vineyard church is completely independent and, at the same time, interdependent.
There is no denominational control or hierarchy, as there is in many other denominations. Each church is self-governed and determines its own affairs. Each Church relates to the Vineyard Association on a “relational basis”, not a “legal basis”
INTER-CHURCH ASSOCIATION (Other denominations)
Vineyard churches are encouraged to develop good relationships with other denominations. Over the years, we have built positive working relationships with a number of other denominational churches.
So, having said all that, just what are our goals at Willow Hill?
Our goals are to experience, reflect and extend the Kingdom of God.
Let me briefly explain what I mean here:
To the extent that we experience the Kingdom, we will reflect it. To the extent that we reflect the Kingdom, we will extend it.
Goals relating to experiencing the Kingdom of God
- The proclamation of the Kingdom of God through Biblical preaching.
- The continual renewal and moving of the Holy Spirit.
- A ministry of healing to broken people.
Goals relating to reflecting the Kingdom of God
- Contemporary and intimate worship, which makes us open to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
- The transformation of people’s lives through Biblical discipleship.
- Reaching the lost and building of a Christian community through relationships, love and service.
Goals relating to extending the Kingdom of God
- A Christian community which is relevant to society in its witness and service.
- A Christian community which becomes a blessing to other churches.
- A Christian community which becomes an effective base for our mission (we must reach the lost), with a primary focus on Church planting.
I really believe that we all have our part to play. We work in and through relationships. The Word, worship and fellowship are our 3 basics, which we try to do really well, and various other ministries flow out of that. Worship is our priority, and we keep it simple – The motto is “Simple, intimate love songs to Jesus.”
We also have several Connect Groups… We often get together for braai’s, hang out, have fun, and more.
